During this extraction project, we uncovered a serious issue inside the cavity wall — rubble and debris had been left within the cavity alongside failed insulation. This type of obstruction can have a major impact on the overall performance of the wall system, reducing its effectiveness and creating the perfect conditions for long-term moisture problems. When debris is present within the cavity, it can interfere with the insulation, trap moisture and contribute to ongoing damp-related issues within the property.
Cases like this highlight exactly why thorough surveying and cavity checks are so important before any cavity wall insulation is installed. A proper pre-installation survey should confirm that the cavity is clear, suitable and free from anything that could compromise the insulation system. When these checks are missed or rushed, the result can be poor performance, trapped moisture and costly remedial work further down the line. This project was a clear reminder that the condition of the cavity itself is just as important as the insulation material being installed.
